The Fourth of July is right around the corner. In addition to firework displays, many people also associate celebrating the Fourth with gathering family and friends for a cookout. In case you need ideas of what to make, here is a tried and true Fourth of July cookout menu that’s sure to please.

Hot Dogs & Hamburgers

Ask everyone to pitch in a few dollars to buy some hot dogs and burgers, and then fire up the grill! You don’t need to be a grill master. Be sure to pick up a pack of veggies burgers to appease the vegetarians of the group as well. Then all you need are buns and the standard condiments: ketchup, mustard, relish, and cheese.

Festive Fruit Salad

Buy some strawberries, peaches, and blueberries, for a red, “white,” and blue fruit salad. Slice the strawberries in halves or quarters, and chop the peaches into bite-sized chunks. You can also add sliced bananas, but wait until you’re ready to serve the salad before cutting and mixing those in with the other fruit.

Potato Salad

You can purchase a container of potato salad from the store, or you can whip up a homemade batch. A benefit of making your potato salad homemade is that you can better control the consistency, as most store-bought salads tend to be a little heavy on the mayo. If you opt for the homemade version, try our favorite potato salad recipe by Tyler Florence on the Food Network.

Veggie Dip Platter

Again, you can purchase pre-made hummus from the store or make your own using Ina Garten’s easy recipe. Chop fresh veggies and toast some pita bread on the grill for dipping. Guests can bring a variety of other dips and finger foods to munch on while the burgers and hot dogs are cooking.
