Memorial Day is approaching quickly, and before we know it, it will be May 25th! While we may not be able to have our typical backyard barbecues or big family beach trips this Memorial Day, we can still celebrate! If you’re not exactly sure where to start, we have some tips and ideas for how you can still make this Memorial Day a fun one.
What better way to start off the day than with a big, delicious brunch? Wake up and whip up something good to enjoy with your family. Not only will you enjoy spending time with everyone, but you then will have a delectable breakfast to eat together. Make this day a little more special than the rest, and start it the right way!
Go for a Bike Ride
Oftentimes when we think about Memorial Day, we think of cookouts and pools. You can still get your outdoor time without a pool day! Why not go for a bike ride on one of the local trails or parks? Biking is a fun and easy way to get some exercise and enjoy a beautiful day.
Make it Themed
Perhaps you would enjoy a meal of margaritas, tacos, chips and salsa, and more! Or perhaps you’re in the mood for macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, baked beans, and other classic cookout foods. No matter what you want to indulge in today, go all out! Make the most of this day by creating a delicious feast of whatever you’re craving.
If the weather allows for it, pack up some food, and have a picnic! Whether you go to a local park or simply go to Center Pointe’s picnic area, it will be a fun change in scenery for your meal. If you don’t feel like packing up food for a picnic, eat your dinner outside on your patio or balcony for an enjoyable, outdoor dinner.
Pay Your Respect
While we associate Memorial Day with cookouts and pool parties, we can’t forget what it’s truly about. This day is a time where we honor and remember the men and women who lost their lives serving in the US military. How will you pay your respect today? Perhaps you can decorate outside of your apartment with American flags, or you can participate in the National Moment of Remembrance. At 3 pm on Memorial Day, pause whatever you’re doing for 1 minute. Of course, another simple and meaningful way to pay your respect is by letting a family member of a fallen soldier know you’re thinking about them and are grateful for the sacrifice their loved one made for our country.
First and foremost, we must remember the true meaning of Memorial Day — to remember those who lost their lives fighting for our country. It’s important to show our respect! Of course, since we can’t gather for our barbecues and pool parties, we can make the most of this holiday to kick off summer.
